Fox on The Shambles, York

We’ve had some pretty misty / foggy weather in York over the last few days and nights. I was out on Boxing Day evening, roaming the streets, hoping to take some atmospheric city photographs while the streets were quiet and the Christmas lights were shrouded in mist. I’d already taken a few photographs and videos of York’s most iconic street “The Shambles”or “Shambles”. (If you don’t know – think closely spaced, crooked old buildings lining a narrow cobbled street, or if you’ve seen Harry Potter then Diagon Alley isn’t too dissimilar.) Having taken the photographs and videos I was after I was just leaving the street when I spotted a fox in the adjoining Shambles Market, searching fruitfully for scraps. I saw the fox was heading off down an alley that lead back into The Shambles so ran down an adjoining alley to see if I could get a view of it heading down the famous street, ferociously adjusting camera settings to suit my potential foxy subject as I ran.

As the fox tentatively peered round the corner into the street I was ready and waiting and managed to get both a photograph and brief video before it crept back into the shadows and wondered off down the street in search of more discarded takeaways.
